For the last two years the Washington State Department of Transportation has been working on a Seattle earthquake video simulation but didn't release it to the public because it was too alarming. However, when a citizen filed a public disclosure request, the agency was required to release the video, which depicts the potential effects of a 7.0 earthquake on a stretch of freeway known as the Alaskan Way Viaduct.

WSDOT says it hopes this video will bring into focus the need to replace the viaduct rather than generating fear. It's worth noting, however, that this simulation does not address the impact of such an earthquake on the rest of the city of Seattle. This just serves as one more reminder of something we were told a long time ago:

"'Out of the Cities; out of the cities!' - this is the message the Lord has been giving me. The earthquakes will come; the floods will come; and we are not to establish ourselves in the wicked cities, where the enemy is served in every way, and where God is so often forgotten. The Lord desires that we shall have clear spiritual eyesight." Review and Herald, July 5, 1906

While we believe that we must reach these cities with the gospel, God has given us specific instructions on how to do this while not living in the metropolitan areas. We are also to warn those living in the cities of coming disasters and how they too can avoid them.
