Dead birds found in Arkansas, Louisiana, Kentucky, and now this report from South Dakota. The difference this time? The USDA is claiming responsibility for poisoning nearly 2000 starlings south of Yankton, SD. Apparently the birds were defecating in feed meal at a private cattle feed lot. USDA officials point to health risks for humans and farm animals as the rationale for the large killing, although they didn't expect some of them to fly 10 miles away, where they died in the Yankton park.
