Dead birds found in Arkansas, Louisiana, Kentucky, and now this report from South Dakota. The difference this time? The USDA is claiming responsibility for poisoning nearly 2000 starlings south of Yankton, SD. Apparently the birds were defecating in feed meal at a private cattle feed lot. USDA officials point to health risks for humans and farm animals as the rationale for the large killing, although they didn't expect some of them to fly 10 miles away, where they died in the Yankton park. A study of drinking water in 35 cities across the United States has revealed that most (31 out of the 35 tested) contain hexavalent chromium, a chemical which the National Institutes of Health has deemed a "probable" carcinogen. According to the Washington Post, "Hexavalent chromium has long been known to cause lung cancer when inhaled, but scientists only recently found evidence that it causes cancer in laboratory animals when ingested. It has been linked in animals to liver and...
What once might have been considered science fiction is now a legitimate concern being looked at by the nation's top space scientists and government leaders. Every 11 years the number of solar flares peaks, and every 22 years the magnetic energy cycle of the sun peaks. In 2013, those two events will coincide, resulting in huge levels of radiation. O.K. so this happens every 22 years - what's the big deal? What makes it different this time is that we've never been so technologically sensitive to solar storms, according to Richard Fisher, head of Nasa's Heliophysics Division. “We know it is coming but we don’t know how bad it is
NOTE: Since first publishing this story, new experts are now sounding their opinions on both sides of the proposed solution reported in this article. With this growing controversy in mind, we've made several modifications to the original article to reflect the differing opinions.
While there are many disturbing facets to the BP oil disaster in the gulf, perhaps none are as shocking as the report that BP knows exactly how to stop the more than 600,000 gallons of oil dumping into the ocean every day – but they refuse to do it. The big question of course is WHY? One proposed answer is simple - BP doesn't want to lose it's investment by permanently shutting down the well. However, with every passing day and clean-up costs sky rocketing, it would clearly be in BP's financial interest to stop the leak. Nevertheless, there are experts who continue to put forth the idea of using explosives to stop the leak by collapsing the well. (CLICK HERE to watch a short clip from FOX news in favor of such an approach.) While there is disagreement on the effectiveness of this method, there is a more important issue we should address. Seventh-day Adventists can bring a spiritual perspective...
The recent attempted bombing of Time's Square is a stark reminder of an old story, but one that isn't making the headlines - the cities are the focal point. Whether it's plots by large complex organizations, or small operations like Faisal Shahzad's failed detonation, the fact remains that America's Cities, and metropolitan centers around the world, for that matter, are in the cross hairs. There have been more than 20 plots or actual attacks against New York City since 1990, according to Mayor Michael Bloomberg. But here's the bigger story - you can do something about it. Many families are deciding that it's time to move to a quiet country setting, not just for physical safety, but for the spiritual advantage. Want to find out how you can make the move? Dr. Wolfgang Wodarg, former head of health for the Council of Europe says major pharmaceutical companies organized a campaign of panic to put pressure on the World Health Organization to declare a pandemic last year. He refers to this as "one of the greatest medicine scandals of the century" and will be participating in a hearing on January 26, held by the Council which covers 47 European countries. Dr. Wodarg has also raised concerns over the H1N1 vaccines. Of particular interest is the vaccine developed by Novartis which was produced in a bioreactor from cancerous cells, a technique that has never been used before. Wodarg went on to say, "We must make sure people can rely on the analysis and expertise of national and international public institutions. The latter are now discredited, because millions of people have been vaccinated with products with inherent possible health risks." CLICK HERE to read the Fox News report on this story.
In a recent Back to Enoch Update I mentioned that we had sold our home of more than eight years, located in Malo, Washington. Many of you have seen pictures of the property in live presentations and on DVD and have heard our story of how the Lord led us to that property back in January of 2001. Some have written asking, "Why did you leave such a beautiful and ideal place?" And that's a good question - especially for a guy who's been preaching the "out of the cities" message for about a decade now. Do we still believe the country living message? Well, here's why we left, and what I believe about the "Out of the Cities" message now.
We recently posted a video released by the United States Air Force Research Laboratory on the subject of Micro Air Vehicles, or MAVs. The video uses computer animation to depict this small, bird sized flying robots complete with flapping wings. According to an article published in the Chicago Tribune, researchers have set a 2015 deadline for introducing the first generation of micro air vehicles - MAVs, which they hope will be capable of operating for several days before recharging. While such technology could be used anywhere, it's interesting that according to the video, MAVs are specifically for use in urban areas. CLICK HERE to watch the video.
Although a "National Emergency" has been declared over the H1N1 outbreak, not everyone in the medical community is convinced that this is as serious a problem as some would make us think. And while many point to internet rumors of the vaccine's dangers as paranoid and lacking credibility, even some main stream voices are expressing concern over it's use.
One such voice is that of Dr. Jay Gordon, a practicing pediatrician who has become more widely known from appearances on television including "Good Morning America" and "Larry King Live". According to Dr. Gordon, "For doctors and the government to imply that we have a dangerous pandemic on our hands distorts the entire community's approach to health care, scares people and, yes, the anxiety provoked is causing more medical problems than the disease itself."
For the last two years the Washington State Department of Transportation has been working on a Seattle earthquake video simulation but didn't release it to the public because it was too alarming. However, when a citizen filed a public disclosure request, the agency was required to release the video, which depicts the potential effects of a 7.0 earthquake on a stretch of freeway known as the Alaskan Way Viaduct.
